Jon Henry Notches First Ever Late Model Win in Just His Second Start! ADA, OH (July 13, 2008) - Living up to the hype, Jon Henry picked up his first ever Late Model feature win Friday night at Attica Raceway Park in just his second career start. Henry then backed up that amazing accomplishment with a 7th place finish in the Halcomb Racing #1 Saturday night at Oakshade Raceway’s $10,000 to win UMP Summer Nationals Finale. |

Running the bottom, Henry quickly picked off cars one-by-one. On lap 14, he motored ahead of Curtis Deisenroth to assume command of the field. After a lap 22 caution set up a three-lap dash to the finish, Jon fired off ahead of Deisenroth, Dusty Moore, Wayne Maffett Jr, and Rusty Schlenk. Henry maintained his smooth and straight on the bottom of the track while Deisenroth was roaring around the top. At the checkered flag, Henry beat Deisenroth to the stripe by half a car length to get his first career Late Model win in just his second ever start, a finish that left the Attica crowd roaring with approval. "It’s a huge adjustment coming from the Modifieds to the Late Models. These things are so much more powerful and it took me awhile to figure out the throttle control," Henry said in victory lane. "I have to thank Shane and Jennifer Halcomb for giving me this opportunity. This is only my second time at Attica and what a great place and great fans!" On Saturday, Jon and the Halcomb Racing team ventured to Oakshade Raceway, just north of Wauseon, OH for the $10,000 to win UMP Summer Nationals Finale. With 50 entries on hand for the race, the popular Ada, OH driver was fast right out of the gate, setting the fourth fastest lap overall and the netting the quickest lap of anyone in Group #4. Henry’s stellar qualifying effort put him on the pole of Heat #4 where he would battle a heavily watered inside groove and hang on for a third place finish, good enough to give him a starting spot on the 60-lap A-Main. At the start of the feature, Henry fell back as far as 16th early on. Once the car and the track car around to his liking, Henry quickly picked off his competitors. Aided by only three cautions, “The Steel Driver” rocketed up to a 7th place finish behind race winner Matt Miller. That race was Henry’s first ever at Oakshade and marked just his third career start in a Late Model. “It took me a few laps to get comfortable and get settled in,” Henry said. “Once I had a good feel for the car and the tires kicked in, it really started taking off.” Henry will take a week off from driving the Halcomb Racing #1 to step back in his own #18 UMP Modified. The 22-year-old hotshoe currently leads the points standing at Limaland and Waynesfield and he sits second in points at Eldora. In addition, Henry is 12th in the National points tally and leads the standings for the state of Ohio.
