Schatz Wins at Dodge City

DODGE CITY, KS (June 21, 2008) – Donny Schatz never wants to settle for second. On Saturday night, he raced the Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) No. 15 Armor All/Chevy/ParkerStore J&J into second place from his sixth place starting spot in the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Series Boot Hill Showdown finale at Dodge City Raceway Park.

A yellow flag allowed leader Daryn Pittman to drop down in the rubber and slow the charge of the two-time defending WoO champion. The Fargo, N.D. resident found another way around and used the high-line while Pittman was stuck in traffic on the bottom where the rubber had come in. Schatz worked the high line to perfection pushing him into the lead and ultimately to his seventh WoO triumph of the season and 77th "A" feature of his career.
“It was a good week for us,” admitted Schatz. “Any time you can start a week and end the week by winning it feels good. We have a lot of momentum right now. The TSR team is working on the little detail things and doing one hell of a job.”

“Winning the Ollie’s 360 race at Sharon was a good start. Paul Kistler built us a good Chevy 360 motor and Ricky (Warner) and Shane (Bowers) gave me a great car. I just had to be patient early and hit my line late. It sets us up for the $50,000 bonus at Eldora early next month. Friday night started strong with us setting a new track record thanks to the Chevy horsepower we have. The night didn’t end up like we wanted it to, but my guys never gave up. To come out and win on Saturday after not having that great of a race car Friday feels great.”

“It always means something to go to a place you have never won at and win. Now we get the opportunity to return home for the week and race in Grand Forks (River Cities Raceway), Fargo (Red River Valley Speedway) and Cedar Lake (Speedway). They are all places that I have a lot of laps at. Everything is falling into place and we are excited to be running this good. We’ll try to keep it up.”

Schatz will spend the week preparing for a homecoming of sorts with races on Friday night at River Cities Raceway in Grand Forks, Saturday night at the Red River Valley Speedway in W. Fargo, and on Sunday at Cedar Lake Speedway in Somerset, Wis.
